The Rolling Stones turn 50 this month and I highly commend their integrity for the last half century. As many legendary bands sell out to corporations and offer songs for product endorsement, The Rolling Stones license its tunes sparingly.
That's not to say "the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world" never succumbed to corporate greed.
The group's classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want" was used in a 2004 Coca-Cola commercial. Microsoft snagged the anthem "Start Me Up," to endorse Windows 95. And in 2007 the track "She's a Rainbow" appeared in a Brava TV advertisement by Sony.
As the band ages, I imagine the desire to license its extensive library to the highest bidder becomes more and more tempting.
Following is a list of song titles integrated with companies should the iconic group decide to further explore its commercial marketability:
- Sympathy for the Dirt Devil
- Hang Kindle Fire
- Honky Tonka Toys
- Get off of my iCloud
- Jumpin' Jack in the Box
- Miss YouTube
- She Was Hot Pocket
- Start Me UPS Store
- TIME is on My Side
- Waiting on a Friendly's
No need to thank me lads, just send a signed guitar.
