Will Amazon Delivery Drones Replace Santa?

Robot Aircraft May Threaten Santa and Reindeer

Recently on "60 Minutes," Amazon revealed a drone that may deliver products directly to the home. No one, I imagine, was more glued to the TV than Santa Claus himself.
Could these drones one day allow Amazon to usurp St. Nick and provide gifts directly to the children of the world?
Don't count on it.
Following are three reasons I believe Kris Kringle may uphold the Christmas tradition.
Drones Won't Deliver Lumps of Coal
Christmas gift delivery begins with deciding who's naughty and who's nice. Santa's been doing it for years and makes sure only the good boys and girls receive presents.
Amazon, as a publicly traded company, may not make such a distinction.
Instead of developing complicated algorithms to determine merit, the online retailer may simply send a drone to anyone who's paid in full.
If little Joey gets a gift after lighting his sister's Dora the Explorer doll on fire, it's not Christmas.
It's the bottom line.
Up on the Rooftop: Copter Madness
People seem to be OK with Santa landing on their roofs. As far as I know, no one has ever called the police and filed a complaint.
But the populace may draw the line if bombarded with robot aircraft.
Imagine being awakened by the clatter of hundreds of drones invading your neighborhood. Buzzing and zigzagging. Swarming the chimneys.
Startled and afraid, you grab night vision goggles and open fire.
Suddenly the night before Christmas is like the beach scene from "Apocalypse Now."
Let's face it, no one wants children to wake up on Christmas and say, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
Selfless Santa
The number one reason Santa may not lose his job to a drone may be that, for Santa, delivering gifts is not a job at all.
It's a magical act to bring joy and happiness to kids everywhere.
For years he's been crisscrossing the globe, squeezing down chimneys, and handing out presents from a gigantic sack.
All without getting paid. Not even minimum wage.
So until Amazon decides to make and deliver all the gifts for free - Santa need not worry.
And that's the way it should be.
Merry Christmas!
